Making valeting payments work harder
K&M Rashid Ltd operates Budgens Frilford, a busy forecourt near Abingdon in Oxfordshire, where valeting plays an important role in the overall customer offer.
As a family-run forecourt, the team has built a strong reputation for high standards across its valeting operation. That commitment has been recognised through multiple best valeting facilities awards.
With continued investment in the site and its customer experience, Budgens Frilford needed a payment solution that matched the quality and pace of its valeting operation.
The Challenge
Budgens Frilford runs a high-volume unattended valeting operation, so payments need to be reliable, quick and easy for customers to use.
The existing payment infrastructure was not delivering the level of consistency the site needed. Reliability issues and inconsistent performance were creating unnecessary friction in the customer journey, while limited real-time transaction visibility made it harder to understand how the valeting facilities were performing.
Having recently invested in new car wash equipment, Sarah Redley, Director of Operations at K&M Rashid Ltd, was keen to introduce a more modern payment experience that would support both customer convenience and operational performance.
The Solution
After reviewing the site’s payment setup, we launched a pilot using a small number of contactless Vianet devices alongside Attenda’s unattended acquiring solution.
The pilot quickly demonstrated the value of the new approach, with revenue quadrupling across the trial devices. Following that success, K&M Rashid Ltd made the decision to roll out the solution across the full valeting operation. Deployment was completed in just a couple of weeks, with minimal disruption to day-to-day operations.
Alongside the payment rollout, Attenda’s relationship manager, Gavin Harrison, used pilot performance data and forecourt experience to identify further opportunities to improve the customer journey and unlock additional revenue.
One recommendation was to introduce longer wash durations, helping customers complete their wash in a single session rather than having to repeat the payment process. The introduction of a 12-minute option has since improved customer convenience and become the second most-used selection on site.
“The difference has been clear from both an operational and customer point of view. The contactless solution is much more reliable, transactions are quicker, and we now have better visibility of how the valeting facilities are performing. Attenda took the time to understand the site, used the pilot data to make practical recommendations, and helped us improve the customer experience without disrupting day-to-day operations.”

The Impact
The solution has helped Budgens Frilford improve:
· Transaction reliability across unattended terminals
· Customer throughput through reduced transaction times
· Access to real-time performance data
· Transaction fee efficiency
· Ongoing optimisation through dedicated account management
The project was not just about replacing payment hardware. It was about making sure the payment experience could keep up with the quality, volume and reputation of an award-winning valeting operation.
By improving reliability, transaction speed and performance visibility, Attenda has helped create a smoother customer experience while giving the team the insight and support needed to keep optimising the site.
With modern unattended payment infrastructure in place, K&M Rashid Ltd is well-positioned to continue building on the success of its valeting operation and respond to changing customer expectations.
